On Monday 11 May, 330 new cases were reported. Of these, 148 live in Flanders, 155 in Wallonia and 25 in Brussels. We have no information on the residence of the other 2 cases. This brings the total number of confirmed infected people to 53 779.
The rest of the situation is as follows:
The total number of people admitted to hospital with coronavirus symptoms now stands at 2 230. There have been 43 new hospital admissions in the last 24 hours.
There are a total of 465 patients in intensive care, which is a decrease of 13 patients in the past 24 hours.
13 732 have been discharged from hospital and declared cured since 15 March, which is an increase of 35 in the past 24 hours.
A total of 8 761 deaths were reported, which is an increase of 65 in the past 24 hours. Of those 65 people, 34 died in hospital and 31 in a residential care centre. In the latter group, 81% were confirmed by a COVID test.
Of the total of 8 761 people, 48% died in hospital, 51% in a residential care centre, 0.3% at home and 0.4% elsewhere. The hospital deaths are all confirmed cases. The deaths in residential care centres were both confirmed (22%) and suspected (78%) cases.
The number of people confirmed infected in Belgium is still increasing. The number of new hospital admissions is continuing to stabilise, but remains fairly high. So please persevere and follow the general measures, take good care of yourself and of others.
