Recent days trend persist
On Saturday 16 May, 291 new cases were reported. Of these, 169 live in Flanders, 84 in Wallonia and 36 in Brussels. We have no information on the residence of the other 2 cases. This brings the total number of confirmed infected people to 55 280.
The rest of the situation is as follows:

The total number of people admitted to hospital with coronavirus symptoms now stands at 1 622. There have been 60 new hospital admissions in the last 24 hours.

There are a total of 371 patients in intensive care, which is an increase of 7 patients in the past 24 hours.

14 630 have been discharged from hospital and declared cured since 15 March, which is an increase of 170 in the past 24 hours.

A total of 9 052 deaths were reported, which is an increase of 47 in the past 24 hours. Of those 47 people, 22 died in hospital and 24 in a residential care centre. In the latter group, 79% were confirmed by a COVID test.

Of the total of 9 052 people, 48% died in hospital, 51% in a residential care centre, 0.2% at home and 0.4% elsewhere. The hospital deaths are all confirmed cases. The deaths in residential care centres were both confirmed (23%) and suspected (77%) cases.

The number of people confirmed infected in Belgium is still increasing. The number of new hospital admissions is gradually decreasing. So please persevere and follow the general measures, take good care of yourself and of others.
