Let's protect eachother against respiratory infections.

Gradual and marked increase in the number of new cases

The development of the epidemic is monitored by using a 7-day average and in comparison to the infection events of the previous week. This method enables us to clearly show the respective trends, regardless of the fluctuations in the daily figures..

The number of new infections during the period 8-14 July increased by 46% compared to the previous week (01/07 to 07/07). The increase is seen in all provinces:

  • Antwerp: 247 new cases from 8/07 to 14/07 compared to 152 the week before.
  • Liège: 49 new cases from 8/07 to 14/07 compared to 30 the previous week
  • Limburg: 89 new cases from 8/07 to 14/07 compared to 41 the previous week
  • Walloon Brabant: 19 new cases from 8/07 to 14/07 compared to 13 the previous week
  • Luxembourg: 20 new cases from 8/07 to 14/07 compared to 16 the previous week
  • Flemish Brabant: 57 new cases from 8/07 to 14/07 compared to 42 the previous week
  • West Flanders: 138 new cases from 8/07 to 14/07 compared to 88 the previous week
  • East Flanders: 62 new cases from 8/07 to 14/07 compared to 52 the previous week
  • Namur: 8 new cases from 8/07 to 14/07 compared to 5 the previous week
  • Hainaut: 67 new cases from 8/07 to 14/07 compared to 55 the previous week
  • Brussels: 118 new cases from 8/07 to 14/07 compared to 90 the previous week

At the national level, there has been a gradual and marked increase in the number of new cases. The increase concerns most age groups, but is particularly noticeable in the 20-59 age group.

The downward trend in the number of hospitalizations seems to have stopped while the number of deaths continues to decline.

At this stage, it is important to continue to maintain measures to slow the increase.

CURRENT LOCAL INFECTION SITUATION

To track the infection at a local level, visit our website, which shows the situation in each municipality. It contains data on the incidence of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 per municipality based on 3 indicators:

  • 7-day cumulative incidence (number of new infections in the last 7 days divided by the population of the specific municipality, multiplied by 100,000);
  • Number of consecutive days on which at least one new infection was reported;
  • Number of days on which there is an increase in new infections compared to the previous day, over a period of 7 days.

2. Daily figures

The daily figures are available online via the Sciensano COVID-19 dashboard.

The corresponding Open Data records can be downloaded from our website.

Dashboard and datasets are updated daily at 09.00 am.

The number of new infections is also updated at the weekend. The two longer-term indicators, hospital admissions and deaths, are only updated during the week.

The virus has not disappeared from Belgian territory. Keep on following the tips to protect yourself and your family.
