End of quarantine for eight Belgian nationals who returned from Wuhan on 2 February

On 2 February, 9 people came back to Belgium on a flight from Wuhan, China. One man tested positive for the new coronavirus (Covid-19) and stayed in a specialised section of the Saint-Pierre Hospital. He left the hospital yesterday after two consecutive negative tests analysed by the laboratory of the KULeuven. The man is no longer infected and therefore no longer poses any threat to those around him.

The other 8 people, who have remained in quarantine for 14 days at the military hospital of Neder-over-Heembeek, can also return home today as there is no longer any risk of contamination. During the stay, the group was tested 6 times by the laboratory of the KULeuven and all results turned out to be negative.

Two other Belgian residents returned home on Sunday 9 February with a flight organised by the British authorities. They are now half-way through their quarantine and therefore have to stay another week at the military hospital of Neder-over-Heembeek. They are in good health and show no symptoms. These two people have already been tested three times, each time with negative results.

The authorities and the medical sector remain extremely vigilant. At the slightest suspicion of a possible case of infection, a test is carried out. 128 tests have been carried out so far, but all these tests have turned out to be negative.
