The downward trend persists for all indicators

On Thursday 7 May, 591 new cases were reported. Of these, 362 live in Flanders, 143 in Wallonia and 57 in Brussels. We have no information on the residence of the other 29 cases. This brings the total number of confirmed infected people to 52 011.
The rest of the situation is as follows:

• The total number of people admitted to hospital with coronavirus symptoms now stands at 2 555. There have been 108 new hospital admissions in the last 24 hours.

• There are a total of 508 patients in intensive care, which is a further decrease of 34 patients in the past 24 hours.

• 13 201 have been discharged from hospital and declared cured since 15 March, which is an increase of 221 in the past 24 hours.

• A total of 8 521 deaths were reported, which is an increase of 107 in the past 24 hours. Of those 107 people, 39 died in hospital and 63 in a residential care centre. In the latter group, 52% were confirmed by a COVID test.

• Of the total of 8 521 people, 47% died in hospital, 52% in a residential care centre, 0.3% at home and 0.4% elsewhere. The hospital deaths are all confirmed cases. The deaths in residential care centres were both confirmed (20%) and suspected (80%) cases.

The number of people confirmed infected in Belgium is still increasing. The number of new hospital admissions is continuing to stabilise, but remains fairly high. So please persevere and follow the general measures, take good care of yourself and of others.
