All trends continue to go down
Sciensano presents the Covid-19 figures for the past 24 hours and the trends for the past week (11/06 - 18/06). The indicators are trending downward. The virus has not disappeared from this country. So keep applying the tips to protect yourself and your family.
1) Figures for Thursday June 18
On Thursday June 18, 128 new cases were reported. Of these, 20 new patients were admitted to hospital. On the other hand, 27 patients have been discharged from hospital. A total of 340 patients have been admitted to hospital, 55 of them are in intensive care. Over the past 24 hours, 12 deaths have been reported. Over the past 24 hours, 15 430 tests have been carried out, bringing the total of tests to 1,087,369.
2) Short-term indicators
Absence from work
Through Medex Sciensano receives an overview of the number of sick people among the 83,000 Belgian government officials compared to previous years. From the graph for 2020 we can deduce that the number of absentees remains stable and lower than in previous years.
Evolution of consultations for influenza-like symptoms
In the past week, the total incidence of consultations of general practitioners for influenza symptoms, such as a fever and coughing, remained stable with 59 consultations per 100,000 inhabitants (including the consultations over the phone). The week before, there were 44 consultations per 100,000 inhabitants. The incidence mainly increased in people aged between 15 and 65 in Flanders. In other regions and age categories the incidence remained stable.
3) Trends of the past week
All trends of the past week are going downwards:
- In the past 7 days, the number of newly confirmed Covid-19 cases decreased by 2 to 5 % per day
- The number of new hospital admissions decreased by 1 to 3 % per day
- The number of hospitalised Covid-19 patients in intensive care decreased by 5 % per day
- The number of Covid-19 deaths decreased by 7 to 9 % per day.

4) Keep on protecting yourself and your family
The virus has not disappeared from this country. So keep applying the tips to protect yourself and your family.
- Apply the five healthy habits:
- Stay at home if you are ill.
- Wash your hands regularly.
- Avoid shaking hands or kissing.
- Use a new paper tissue every time and dispose of it in a lidded bin.
- If you do not have a tissue, sneeze or cough into the crease of your elbow.
- Watch out for those most at risk
- Keep a minimum distance of 1.5 metres from other people
- Meet up with a maximum of 10 people per week
- Meet up outside
- If you want to do something in group, make sure the group has a maximum of 10 people.
