Number of new hospital admissions remains stable

On Friday 17 April, 1,045 new cases were reported. Of these, 608 live in Flanders, 298 in Wallonia and 128 in Brussels. We have no information on the residence of the other 11 cases. This brings the total number of confirmed infected people to 37,183.

The rest of the situation is as follows:

• A total of 5,069 patients have been admitted to hospital. Over the past 24 hours, there have been 303 new admissions.

• There are a total of 1,119 patients in intensive care, which is a further decrease of 21 patients in the past 24 hours.

• 8,348 patients have been discharged from hospital and declared cured since March 15, which is an increase of 387 in the past 24 hours.

• A total of 5,453 deaths were reported, which an increase of 290 in the past 24 hours. Of those 290 people, 93 died in hospital and 192 in a residential care centre. In the latter group, 3.1% were confirmed by a COVID test.

• Of the total of 5,453 people, 47% died in hospital, 51% in a residential care centre, 0.4% at home and 0.4% elsewhere. The hospital deaths are all confirmed cases. The deaths in residential care centres were both confirmed (4.1%) and suspected (96%) cases.

The number of people confirmed infected in this country is still increasing. The number of new hospital admissions is continuing to stabilise, but remains fairly high. So please persevere and follow the general measures, take good care of yourself and of others.
